Our Mission
The mission of the National Cannabis Laboratory Council (NCLC) is to share critical data and to promote science-based national lab testing standards for cannabis products in order to facilitate interstate commerce and protect public health and consumer safety.
Our volunteer coalition was formed in 2021 by numerous cannabis lab scientists and scientific- and medical-focused ancillary operators from around the country in collaboration with the law firm of Perkins Coie.
As of November 2023, the S3 Collective will serve as NCLC’s forum.
The Need for National Standards:
As the legal cannabis market expands and federal legalization becomes a more imminent reality, the discrepancies in state testing requirements pose significant challenges. The NCLC recognizes the urgent need for federal agencies to address these inconsistencies and develop a standardized testing regime. The adoption of national standards is vital for advancing public health and safety goals and for the seamless interstate commerce of safe cannabis products.
Core Mandate and Objectives
- Advocacy for National Testing Standards: The NCLC is dedicated to promoting uniform testing standards across the nation, ensuring consistency in cannabis product quality and safety.
- Collaborative Data Sharing: We foster a culture of collaboration, sharing data from various projects while adhering to antitrust principles.
- Educational Outreach: Disseminating findings from these collaborations is key to educating and guiding industry stakeholders.
- Championing GMP and Uniform Standards: We advocate for the adoption of Good Manufacturing Practices and uniform testing standards to set industry benchmarks.
Membership
Our coalition includes state-licensed cannabis and non-cannabis labs, as well as ancillary businesses with scientific or medical missions, all committed to enhancing the quality and safety of cannabis products.
